Schedule for InSA Trip

to Stavanger

         Friday 17th of September

06:30: Meetup at BI Main Entrance

07:00: Buses leave BI

16:00: Arrive in Stavanger and Check-In at Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel, in double and triple rooms. The hotel is one of the finest in the city. We will stay here for the duration of our stay and enjoy their health club, their superb location overlooking the beautiful Breivannet lake and of course their deluxe breakfast.

17:00: City Tour with Buses and local guides. Swantje Poitinger and her local company will give us a tour of this beautiful city in English. We will go up to a vantage point from where all of Stavanger will unfold before you, then head down to the Sword in Mountain monument commemorating Harald Fairhair’s victory at the Battle of Hafrsfjord. Once back in the city centre we will leave the buses behind and Swantje will take us up and down the cobbled streets of Old Stavanger and give a tour of the Beautiful Stavanger Cathedral.

19:00: We recommend having dinner near Skaggen brygge, a lovely place with lots of bars and cafes with characteristic Norwegian buildings built on water and then spend the rest of the evening going to all the different bars and cafes. A 21 age limit is typical in Stavanger so bring your ID cards. For those under the age restrictions we will do our best to find some bars for you to visit as well.

        Saturday 18th September

09:00: Leave Stavanger by Ferry for the Hike up to Prekestolen (Pulpit Rock). It will take us roughly an hour and a half to get to the Pulpit rock cabin, our starting point for the hike, and the hike itself will take between 1.5 and 2 hours, so steady yourself! We’ll have lunch up at the plateau when we get there and enjoy the view for a bit.

17:00: Return to Stavanger from Prekestolen. You’ll have some time to relax at the hotel after the trip or take some time to look around this wonderful town.

19:00: We’ll go to a pizza restaurant to get some nutrition into ourselves before we go out for what definitely promises to be the best night out of the trip.

21:00: We split into two groups due to varying social programmes. One group may go to the NuMusic Festival with acts like golden oldie Grandmaster Flash on stage this night. Entrance is 230 NOK for those who want to go but ticket availability will only become evident once we’re there.

Alternatively the rest of us will have a pre-drink at some bars near the hotel before we go to one of Stavanger’s premier nightclubs.

23:30: Those over 21 will get to come to Taket, one of Stavanger’s very best nightclubs, with great music, drinks and people keeping us there late into the night. We meet up at the Hotel Reception before going to Taket. Entrance is Free before 24:00 just for us with InSA!

Sunday 19th September

08:00: As much as we appreciate that Saturday night is a whole lot of fun, Sunday we’re up early for the trip to Kjerag. If you don’t get enough sleep in your beds catch it up on the 3 hour trip on the bus because this is a day you won’t want to miss. The hike will be pretty grueling though, so be sure to pack some proper shoes and stock up with enough food from the hotel. Hope for the best but dress for the worst. The weather can be unpredictable at the best of times in this country so dress warmly! The hike will be 3 hours each way and we’ll have a spot of lunch once we’re up there. The descent will be kinder but will still take a good 2.5 hours.

21:00: After a very long but immensely enjoyable day, we’ll be back in good old Stavanger and we’ll find somewhere to calm our munchies either on the way or near the hotel.  We expect all of you to be dead (metaphorically) after the hike so don’t worry we won’t make you guys do anything else on Sunday. Enjoy you final good night’s sleep at Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel.

        Monday 20th September

10:00: We’ve given you lot a bit of a lie in on this day because we think you deserve it. After that we pack our bags, chuck ‘em in the bus and go to our final port of call in Stavanger, the city’s brilliant Oil Museum! Slide down a real escape chute, or find the light in a dark room during an emergency on the platform. Put yourself in the shoes of a Norwegian oil platform worker and discover the fascinating world of black gold in the North Atlantic.

13:00: Ultimately, as upsetting as it is, we have to say goodbye to this wonderful city and head back. With our cameras full of memories and our legs wobbling slightly from the four days of fun, we flop back into our seats and then turn left and either A) fall asleep or B) begin talking excitedly to your neighbour about the Copenhagen trip!

21:30: Home Sweet Home!

Introduction / Buddy Weeks – August 2010

“As a new International student at BI, either exchange or BBA, we invite you to join us in all the fun ahead. We have designed the Introduction week to get you acquainted with BI, Oslo and Norway, not the least to get you to know your fellow classmates at school. From the program you may select and choose as you wish. However experience shows that you will benefit the most personally from joining the entire program, as it is quite diverse. Have a great time!!”

BBA and InSA wishes all new Exchange and BBA students a warm welcome to a yet another term at BI Norwegian School of Management.

Each year hundreds of students walk through the revolving glass doors of BI’s state-of-the-art facilities in Nydalen and each year new stories are written and new friends are made. We at BBA and InSA welcome you to BI and we will do our utmost to make your time here as exciting, enjoyable and of course educational as possible.

So get ready to throw yourself into the mad melee that are the Intro weeks and in no time at all you’ll find yourself lounging on the BSN rooftop terrace in the late summer’s sun and enjoying a drink with your new French friends, or having a game of football with some Spanish blokes you met on that trip to the park. Oslo is full of surprises and you are sure to find something to suit your taste.

Hiking in the Norwegian wilderness is usually no more than 20 minutes from wherever you happen to be at the time, and both Grunerløkka and Central Oslo will be sure to satisfy any interpretation of the phrase “a fun night out” you can come up with.  We for our part will facilitate, in every way we can, the intercultural interaction that people generally want to experience in an international degree.

Learn a new language with our InSA Talkpartner programme and keep yourself updated on all the events and activities by checking our Facebook pages and our Twitter tweets. Finally of course get down to business and make the most of the unique experience of an English language Business course in a country with a unique economic and social climate. Welcome to Norway everyone!
